Pitching: We get Ohtani vs. German tonight as the Angels take on the New York Yankees. The first thing that jumped out at my was the strikeout rate for Ohtani. At 33.1% he should have a ton of success against a depleted Yankee lineup. His opponent, German does not best Ohtani in any major pitching category. Even in xFIP Ohtani boasts a 3.33 compared to German’s 4.33. If the lineup moves the Yankees made didn’t already have you eyeing the Angels the pitching advantage is definitely something worth considering.

Line Movement: On any normal day, we would expect the 38-41-0 Angels to come in as at least +120 or +130 dogs on the road against a 41-38-0 Yankees team. That isn’t what we saw today. The line remained consistent right around +110, even after the lineups were announced. Nothing overly telling about this line but something to consider as small road dogs are a winning trend in the MLB this year.

Offense: These offenses are pretty much even across the board. One key factor to consider is the slugging percentage for the Angels. Coming in at .435 they easily top the Yankees who have just a .397. In a small ballpark and short right field we have to look at the home runs, but that gives no indicators either. Both teams hit their fair share with the Angels having 107 on the season and the Yankees having a similar 105.
